Hazelburn was an old Campbeltown distillery that closed in 1925. In 1997 Springbank resuscitated the brand and the first version was released in 2005. Hazelburn is unpeated and triple distilled, which makes it a light, maltesery and subtle whisky. Currently it offers an 8 year old, a 12 year old and the no age statement CV version. This 8 year old is rather heavier than the official tasting notes would have you believe, but lovely nonetheless.
The Whisky Tasting Club Notes:
Nose: Cream soda. Fruit and nut chocolate. Chewy and earthy. Menthol. Smells a lot older than its eight years.
Palate: Light and then heavy and slightly smoky, spicy and grapey. Dark chocolate “bounty bar” at the finish. Tastes more like a 20 year old highlander
