The World’s Best Whiskies: It’s D-Day!

Dominic’s Day!
Dram Day
Daring to be Different Day.

What do Bon Jovi, Jesse James, Leicester City, Nicole Kidman, the prospective Conservative candidate for Angus and moaning English rugby fans all have in common?

They are all featured in The World’s Best Whiskies a stylish but irreverent 288 page coffee table book written by leading whisky writer Dominic Roskrow.

The book, which includes tasting notes for a staggering 750 whiskies as well as more than 30 features and interviews with some of the world’s top whisky makers, is a bright and modern full colour guide packed with stories and unusual references, making it a genuinely different drinks book.

Its contents are drawn from Dominic’s vast experience travelling the world to visit distilleries and meet whisky makers, and it is packed with stories and personal observations. Written and researched in the first half of this year, the book includes whiskies from across the world, including all the recognised whisky territories and more unusual ones such as Taiwan, Australia, Germany and Lithuania.

The book is Dominic’s fourth book on whisky, but the former newspaper journalist says that he set out to write something different from the vast number of books on the subject written in recent years.

“I read one book last year where the whole Scottish section had been lifted by the author from one of his previous books,” he said. “That is disgraceful and lazy. I wanted to give whisky fans a different perspective, to personalize whisky and to make it dynamic, fun and accessible. This book is an extension of the whisky tasting talks I have been doing for the last five years, and is designed to appeal to new fans of whisky, no matter where it’s from or what style it is.”

Dominic is the former editor of Whisky Magazine, now edits Whiskeria and contributes to most of the world’s leading drinks titles including Harpers Wine & Spirit, Drinks International, The Spirits Business, The Malt Advocate and Whisky Magazine.

Earlier this year he updated the world’s best selling whisky book, The Malt Whisky Companion, and he has also provided tasting notes and a feature for the new 2011 Malt Whisky Year Book.

The release of the book comes at a busy time for Dominic. He is also a director of The Whisky Tasting Club, an on line business launched this month and offering people the chance to sample selections of malt whisky through the post and offering them background information and extensive tasting notes.

The World’s Best Whiskies is published by Jacqui Small Publishing on October 21 and will be available from all good book shops. Dominic will be touring the country from November until April holding tasting and talking sessions in support of the book.
